Civil Service Commission Announces 5th Conference in June

May 17, 2026

The Civil Service Commission has officially announced that the 5th edition of the Civil Service Conference is scheduled to take place this June. The event, which has become a cornerstone for administrative reform in the Maldives, aims to modernize public service delivery and streamline government operations.

Since its inception in 2014, the conference has been held every two years, providing a platform for rigorous research and strategic planning. This year’s sessions are confirmed to run from June 13 to June 15.

A Vision for Modern Governance

The theme for the 2026 conference has been set as:

“FUTURE-READY RESPONSIVE GOVERNANCE – Empower People, Embrace Agility, Enhance Services.”

The agenda is built around five critical tracks designed to address the evolving needs of the Maldivian public:

  • Governance and Reforms: Restructuring administrative systems.
  • Service Excellence: Elevating the standard of public interaction.
  • Digital Transformation: Integrating modern technology into daily workflows.
  • Leadership and Competency: Overcoming leadership challenges and building professional skills.
  • Workplace Well-being: Ensuring a safe and productive environment for state employees.

The three-day summit is expected to draw approximately 350 stakeholders. Attendees will include Cabinet Ministers, State Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and Permanent Secretaries. Crucially, the conference will also include Secretary-Generals from both City and Island Councils, ensuring that local governance is represented alongside state-owned enterprises.

The event will feature insights from six keynote speakers representing both local expertise and international perspectives. Furthermore, more than 15 research papers focusing on the future trajectory of the civil service will be presented and discussed.

The Civil Service Commission emphasized that the conference is not merely a forum for discussion, but a catalyst for practical change. The third day will be dedicated to “Working Sessions,” where participants will break into groups to translate research findings into actionable policy recommendations.

Building on the success of previous conferences, the Commission has introduced significant developmental changes to the civil service system. By identifying current bottlenecks and embracing digital innovation, the CSC aims to ensure that the Maldivian Civil Service remains resilient and prepared for future challenges.
